17 May

17th of May Celebration

The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17th in 1814. The constitution declared Norway to be an independent nation. The day is celebrated with parades, music, food and ice cream. Streets are packed with people and Norwegians finally get to show off their national costume - the bunad in all its glory. Come join us and experience the 17th of May Celebrations!

We will meet at 12:00 at Rosenkildehuset

12.30 The parade starts at Domkirkeplassen, goes  through Old Stavanger,
and ends up at Stavanger Concert Hall
The parade is open to everyone, and it is always more fun being part
of a parade then just watching
13.00  Entertainment and international cuisine (for sale)
Key note speaker: Bent Høie, Minister of Health and Care Services
14.30  Socializing at Rosenkildehuset with bubbles, fruit and ice-cream.
16.00  The Folketoget parade starts at Domkirkeplassen.

This will be a fun family day and will give you an understanding of how important this day is to Norwegians. This is a celebration you don't want to miss!
